For the part of the world that I live in, summer is winding down. We are heading into fall and that means cooler days, more clouds, and less sun. That is why this quote caught my attention:

“Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.” Anthony J. D’Angelo

As a Positivity Psychologist, this spoke to me.

No matter what is happening around us, we ultimately bring ourselves to the game and how we decide to show up plays a big part in what happens to us.

I liken this to a bear.

When we show up as a bear, snarling, with our teeth bared and displaying our claws, we are seen as something to run from.

If we see the other person as a bear, same scenario, then we run from that person.

Our goal at Live On Purpose is to save and enrich key relationships.

When we show up we need to be seen as the opposite of an aggressive bear. We need to smile, display open body language, acknowledge the other person politely, and be considerate. And, we need to give the other person the benefit of the doubt and not see them as someone we should fight or flee from.

You can actually practice this in the mirror. Smile, say hello, and notice how your body looks, your voice sounds, and your facial expression.

We want to approach any situation with a calm face, calm body, and calm voice. These will invite open communication and take down another’s defenses.

Be prepared for the next cloudy day, bring your own sunshine. This is going to be the best fall/winter ever!
