Stay Positive In A Negative World

Ahhh, election season, as if there wasn’t enough negativity in the world. So how can you stay positive in the muck? In a recent episode on YouTube, I share principles and skills that can help you Stay Positive in a Negative World.

Identify Principles that are related to positivity. When you understand the principle, you can change the outcome.

1.    Everything has an upside and a downside. There are pros and cons, pleasure and pain. Up does not exist except in relationship to down. Opposites define each other.

2.    We constantly judge, and you can’t turn it off. Judgment also implies comparison. That you think the world is negative, is a judgment. It could always be better and always be worse depending on our judgment of what is occurring.

3.    We are constantly creating and we have the ability to create a mess or hope.

Skill #1 Practice saying, “This is good.” Even if it is painful or challenging. Invites your brain to start processing differently. Your brain will begin to question, “How is this good?” Find the ways. You just broke your leg, well, you now have time to read that book you have been wanting to get to and you get to meet people you never would have.

Skill #2 Focus on gratitude. It changes your mind from a negative downward slope to a positive upward climb.

Skill #3 Reframe discontent, use it as a trigger for creation. Everything that’s created starts with discontent. There is a sense something is difficult or painful or we don’t like. We then create something better.

Skill #4 Work to create the upgrade. It could always be better. The discontent gets you off the fence so you can work toward creating the upgrade.

Hi Paul, Thanks for this email. I really needed this info. Life is great, nothing to complain about, but about 6 months ago I started thinking about all the “What If’s” and did a nose dive. My Chronic Lymphocytic Colitis flared up and to top it off the Thyroid meds I had taken for years was taken off the market and the doctor experimented with several other meds that really didn’t work well. I got anxious and depressed for no reason. I felt like my brain was really messed up and have been trying to think in the “now” and not the past and future. It is really hard! I don’t like to burden friends and family and especially Grant with the problem, but feel like I need someone to unload on, like some type of group therapy, so I get feedback?
